My San Diego Trip Day 2
Our day started off at the hotel breakfast buffet because free food is best on a vacation budget. haha
In the morning we had a few hours before we could visit my cousin so to pass time we went to a garden nursery nearby. However, finding it was a task my mom remembered she saw one the day before while we were driving around but we had little to go off of. She said, "it was by the bridge, I can remember seeing it from higher ground." ha that made it hard but, after driving in a few circles we came across it. The Armstrong Garden Center was really big with lots of vibrant pottery and loads of plants. My mom decided not to buy anything yet because we had a few more days and we didn't want to be driving around with pots and plants in the trunk.
My outfit: dress forever 21, jean jacket Walmart, and sandals payless shoe.
In the garden center they had a lot of cool iron work from an Australian designer we found a few we wanted but, that calls for more saving.
Lastly but, surely not the least from the garden center we found my dream indoor tree! I'm not sure if its meant to be indoors but that's where I'd like it to be. Isn't it beautiful?! If anyone needs any ideas for my birthday gift this year I would love this tree and I don't mind if it's a baby tree either.
Once we were done at the garden center we headed over to the MCRD and we still had a little time so we popped into the MCX. Before we knew it the time had come to head over to watch the new marines get dismissed for liberty. They give the new marines a few hours the day before graduation day to spend time on base with their family and friends.
These yellow boot prints are where many recruits line up and walk these hallways daily. At the end of the hallway there is a blacktop with more yellow boot prints here I tried being serious in my attempt to line up. However, it was to difficult with my dad laughing at me I couldn't help but laugh too.
If you are trying to get a front row view of your marine marching in my advice is getting there 30min plus because it gets packed! The picture is deceiving because right after everyone lined up.
Standing there waiting for my cousin I couldn't help but, remember just a few years ago when we stood in that exact place waiting to see my brother. The excitement that feels you because its been four month since you last seen them but, it feels like forever!!
While they're lined up you scope the group trying to find your marine so that the minute they say dismissed fallout you know exactly where to run. An that's exactly what happens the crowd goes wild in the most heart warming way. The sight of families reuniting with happy tears and warm hugs you just can't help but, to have a smile the whole time.
Afterwards we headed to dominoes to have some lunch and their was a line but after about 10 minutes that place was packed. There at dominoes we pushed two tables together and ate while catching up, hearing all the experiences they had. It's amazing that this event happens every Thursday all year long! All year long families get to come to this restaurant and look with big googly eyes at their babies who are now grown men that they couldn't be any prouder of.
lol excuse my foochie face below I can't help it okay, maybe I can try harder to handle it! Grrr*
Since 2002 maybe I started collecting imprinted pennies wherever we visit and I'm so glad they finally got a MCRD penny machine now I can add more to my collection. My collecting started when we visited Florida on a family vacation and my first penny is from Disney World from there on it has grown into two collector's books.
Before liberty was over we left a little early to give them some quality family alone time and we where headed back to our hotel room. On our way back my dad said with the sun about to set it would be a good time to visit a city outlook which was right next to hotel circle. The site ended up being a Mormon Battalion Historic site with a little park area. We walked up some stairs and found a neat mural it was nice to see taggers had left it graffiti free. The city view was amazing!
After soaking in the view we headed back to the room to have a little rest which ended up being a little longer than expected. At almost 8pm we left our room to have go have dinner in Old Town. Before we decided where to eat we walked down the road to have a look at all the night time lights. The night life is pretty neat with a lot of gift shops open late it makes for a nice night stroll.
I saw this soap shop but they had just closed when we walked by but next time I plan on going in because they had some amazing looking soaps. HA it probably sounds like I'm obsessed with soap seeing how I went to Lush just the day before. Soap is something you'll always use hopefully you do! haha so why not make it fun instead of a boring bar of soap.

One restaurant caught our eye where they were making fresh tortillas in the window. The display was convincing enough so we agreed to go in. The chips and salsa were okay but the tortillas is where is was at for sure!
The night time lights were at there prime viewing and my dad recommend that we drive across the Coronado Bridge. It was a perfect photo opportunity however, me being very unexperienced with my camera I couldn't manage to capture a good shot. We finished the night with trying to capture a photo of the Coronado Bridge which was a fail.
By this time it was getting cold so we headed back to our room to get some sleep because the next morning we needed to wake up early for Graduation!! I hope you guys are enjoying a little peak into our trip. CorinaH
