Deployment Care Package #2 The Simpsons

Deployment care packages can be very fun to make. There are endless ideas. You could also get together with your family and make it a fun night activity. I think maybe my family can get a bit carried away in the competitive department. Sticking with some of my brothers favorites I went with the Simpsons. When I think of the Simpsons I think donuts!
It took some time gluing the 'sprinkles' ha but it was well worth it.
I forgot to take measurements of the donuts but I pretty much free styled it. For the Simpsons t.v image I just printed it out, cut and paste. I didn't want to use printed images because I wanted it to feel personal and homemade. But I just didn't have time to make a t.v.
In the box I included two of the Simpson lego mystery packs. I wouldn't send to many unperishable items just for storage reasons. I figured these are tiny enough to hide in a pocket or if he doesn't have room they aren't expensive he could just leave them behind.

On the bottom of the box I used a 12x12 sheet of paper to cover the card board box look. Not that there is anything wrong with it. I just feel that this ways it all ties in with the color and theme.

Themed snacks were difficult to find so I threw worrying about that out the window. I also picked up trail mix, belvita breakfast crackers, donut sticks, instant coffee bags, extra chapticks, gum, and candy. I placed some of the snacks in Ziploc bags to keep things in place and to make them easy to store if he doesn't have a bag.

The boxes that were used are the large flat rate. You can pick them up at your post office and you don't have to pay the shipping fee until you mail it out. I would pick up two so you can get a head start on your next theme. If you are having a hard time with ideas I would look on Pinterest and Instagram there are endless ideas. It doesn't have to be perfect trust me its the thought that counts. If you know anyone who is deployed I encourage you to send them a package even if its small. There are many soldiers who don't receive anything and its very sad. They serve and protect us. I think its the least we can do for them. CorinaH

Beautiful Lengths

Lets jump right in. Donating my hair had always been something on my mind. I think I have made it a birthday tradition to change my hair up a bit. This year I decided to go more dramatic but for a good cause. When my mom was first diagnosed with cancer and started chemo she began to lose her hair. I saw the whole process.  As she got better her hair grew back and she had been considered cancer free. I never gave it anymore thought. But when my mother was re-diagnosed the thought came back. How could I help in a helpless situation. Then after conversations and some googling I decided I wanted to donate my hair. I talked it over with my hair stylist and it was set. Here is the link she gave me on the requirements and how to prepare. I decided to use Pantene Beautiful Lengths because they do not charge their wig recipients. My hair could also use some help it was in a bit of a messy stage and if cutting it could help someone in need I was glad to help. This is my hair before
I had no idea of how much I wanted to donate so we went with 10 inches to allow room to style. I totally trusted my hair stylist that she knew what she was doing because my hair has been long since I was like 9? That I had no idea what would look best. I think its very important that you find someone you trust because it is a big change and I would hope you would feel good after. Not regretting it because the stylist didn't understand what you asked for.
When I arrive at the salon I was very nervous but I knew I wouldn't chicken. I was just excited nervous in a way. Nervous of what I would look like but also very excited for some change!
I'm not quite sure on hair terms but I believe she said it was a bomber (ombre bob). My natural hair color was dyed to a warm brown with a bit of auburn ombre.
I'm very pleased on the way my hair turned out. I encourage you if you have been thinking about donating your hair to just do it. It all goes to a good cause supporting women with cancer. Hair can always grow back if you don't like it.
What ever you decide to do, Make sure it makes you happy. CorinaH

Deployment Care Package #1 TMNT

As you may have read in my other blog, my brother is deployed. I can't image how hard it must be to be away from home for so long . We can help a little by showing how much we care. I decided to go with the TMNT theme because it was a cartoon my brother liked when he was younger and I thought maybe it would bring a smile to him. I had a little look around on pinterest at all the other care package ideas. I also looked on instagram at all the hash tags regarding deployment care packages to get some ideas. As a scrap booker and slight paper hoarder as my mom would say I didn't have to buy anything for these box decorations.
I started by printing an image and traced it onto colored cardstock.

Then I had to make a pizza of course. What would a ninja turtle box be without some pizza.
Its not the number one pizza but it will do.

Donatello, Michelangelo, Raphael, and Leonardo.

I found that taking a 12x12 scrapbook paper and cutting it in half can be used to cover two flaps of the box. The halves can also be used in the inside walls of the box. A whole 12x12 paper covers the bottom of the box.

Here are just some of the few snacks I packed. I also bought some more like pizza pringle sticks, raisins, cheddar pringles, bean dip, chapstick, gum, and cough drops. They may not mix well together but he can always use it with other snacks he receives or already has. It was also pretty hard to find pizza and ninja turtle snacks.

The green tissue paper reminded me of a turtle shell in a way. Hopefully the tissue will keep everything neat. But some of the boxes that have made it so far are said to be pretty banged up.
Under the tissue lies a surprise of turtle themed snacks and some plates just incase. Plus they were themed so why not.

I hope that this can give you an idea of some things to send to a brother, friend, husband, or someone you know who maybe be deployed/long distance. I'll try to write when I find out what was a hit or didn't survive the trip. As always thank you, CorinaH
