Wi-Fi Down!

I'm back! I took a little time off due to our home Wi-Fi being out and I started two new jobs! No worries the Wi-Fi is back and now I'm back hopefully it'll be for good. What have we missed? Mother's Day, the Saturday before we had a mother daughter brunch and we dressed up as a theme any guess what we were? I only wore my outfit for about half an hour sadly I had to go to work.

My Job Search Experience

Last year in December I resigned at my job of three years for different reasons. At the time I decided to enjoy the rest of the month off spending time with my family. The goal was once the new year started the job search would begin too and it did with a very rough start. I'll admit I was being very picky having worked with food I wanted to try something else. During my job search I would look up jobs hiring in my area that interested me and I would apply online. Applications online never seem to work in my experience I felt like employers just denied before the read my application which I'm sure isn't the case. However, I could help the feeling but month after month I was getting nowhere. So I gave up my picky search and applied to anywhere and everywhere but still nothing was happing. I became very discouraged feeling like my resume wasn't helping me out or that my experience wasn't enough. Finally I got an interview for a hotel five minutes from my house and I was so glad to have the chance. At the same time I received an email from our local school district for a food service assistant position but, first I would have to take a test. I was torn not knowing what to do accept the hotel job offer or wait to take the test an go from there. The hotel job, I had a few people telling me it wasn't a good idea picking up a graveyard shift and that it seemed a little unsafe. I knew it was true and decided to pass on the opportunity but I was a bit bummed because I was uncertain of how long it would be before I would get another offer. The following day I attended the food assistant test and upon my arrival there were at least 50 people but, I stayed positive and took the test. The following day I heard that I had passed the test I was asked to attend an interview in front of three district workers and it would be recorded. Although I was very nervous I attended and it went well and a week later I heard back they were interested and I was number 8 on the waiting list. About a month went by I hadn't heard anything but, there was a local job fair in town an I decided it was worth a shot. The job fair was set to go for a few hours but I arrived as soon as it started I had to wait in a long line outside of the venue it moved pretty quickly. Once I was inside there was a room filled of tables with a business and their store applications. The job fair had a lot of people younger than me so I felt a little old and out of place. I walked the room to look at all the businesses and then I picked up a few applications and sat at a table to fill them out. My first choice I turned in offered me an interview the very next day! I was in shock. My second choice had me fill out a background check just incase they choose to proceed. The next day I attended my first choice interview and I thought it had gone well but, a week later and I hadn't heard anything back. However, I got a call from my second choice saying they'd like to interview me. So I attended my second choice interview and the same day I got an email from my first choice saying there was a delay and they were still interested if I was. Yes! It was about a week later I received two job offers and I wanted to accept them both but didn't know what to do. So I accepted the job that was offered first and told the other I had accepted another part time job offer if they'd be willing to work with it and they said YES! Finally I was employed again and couldn't be anymore excited! So now in present time I am completing my third week of work with two jobs! Wow Corina why the long story? What's the point? The point is sometimes you have to go through the rough patches before it gets better. Let go of being picky and you open more doors don't limit yourself. If you are looking for a job try a job fair employers get a better impression of you then an online application. ~CorinaH
