Movie Night

Netflix Movie Recommendation

A few nights ago I was going through Netflix looking for something to watch as we do when we are on Netflix. I came across 'Black Fish' a documentary on orca aka killer whales aka blackfish. Some might say boring! But its far from being boring. Without trying to give too much away its based on killer whales that are keep in captivity. I've always had a soft spot for animals of any variety. This movie opened my eyes completely to the cruelty of humanity. We all tend to have an idea but it can be easily over looked and that is sad. When I was young we lived down south and visiting Sea World was a yearly activity for my family. But watching this documentary makes me feel guilty that we ever visited. Yes, when I was younger it was a blast to watch giant whales jump out of water and splash a big wave over the wall. Some might argue that they are living a better life saved from harm in the wild and that they have an abundance of food. This movie shows you real stories of where some of the whales came from and the life they live in captivity. In return the behavioral issues that have come to light over the years. I highly recommend this movie to everyone. I will say there are some stories and short clips of the events that might not be suitable for younger children. I wonder once we have watched this if we will continue to support this kind of treatment. I would hope it opens your eyes as much as it did mine and perhaps burn a little fire in your heart to inspire us to make this world a little better for our future generations. This movie breaks my heart. Until next time... CorinaH
A quote from the movie.
John Hargrove: Those are not your whales. Ya know, you love them, and you think, I'm the one that touches them, feeds them, keeps them alive, gives them the care that they need. They're NOT your whales. They own them!

Spare Room Makeover

ROOM MAKEOVER PROJECT:

Hello Everyone! I hope you all enjoy my take on a room makeover.
After my mom was diagnosed it was decided that she wouldn't be returning to work. Everyone would be returning to work in August so we made a plan. The plan was with my flexible schedule I would take some time off work to be home with my mom and I could also take care of my niece. When we stay home we tend to become lazy couch potatoes and I didn't want that to be the case. So I decided that I could get my niece ready for school. I've helped in the private school kindergarten class before so I had an idea of what it takes. My mom was also a pre-k/kindergarten teacher so she could give me pointers. I wanted to make a learning setting that would be fun and exciting. Don't get me wrong a kitchen table could very well do the job but we had a spare bedroom that we hardly used for guest and it was becoming a storing room. An with my parents permission and me bugging they said ok. I began with clearing out the room.  A few pictures of what it looked like before.

One of the times someone broke into our house they stole the tv off the wall leaving the tv wall mount. I started by removing it from the wall. The wall mount left some pretty big holes.

The spare room could use a paint job but being short on time and working constantly didn't give me enough time to repair the holes or paint the room. What did I do? A pretty good job of covering up. At least I think so. Please excuse the door

Hopefully next chance I get I can go to the school store and get some wall paper to cover the door and make the alphabets pop. My goal for room decorations was to have colors, shapes, alphabets, numbers, and days of the week not that we would be learning them all at once. Just so it would be up and my niece could see it every day to familiarize herself with them. So when it comes time to learn about them she will have an idea of what they look like and maybe it will help in the end.
 ok onward with the pictures

This board will be a cool way to teach her what lives under the sea. Once we master them I could change it to jungle animals or make it a seasonal board with all the holidays coming soon. To be determined at another time.

I found the insects on the top border at dollar tree. The images are large and come with two of each five making it 10 pieces for one dollar. If you have a circuit you could also make fun images at home.
The treasure chests are from walmart they where like four dollars each. They are currently used for fast clean up of toys.

At last minute I realized I didn't have a border for my colors board. So I improvised and used the actual color crayons that came in the set as my border. I Plan to use this board to display art but that could change.
I didn't intend for the room to match with the red and navy it just kind of happened. I was slowly buying things I liked and setting them aside. Once I had everything it all just happened to tie in. Maybe I was self consciously doing it.
A growing chart to give the kids a visual of how tall they are and the cork board is a diy that I did in my previous blog.
I hope you all enjoyed this half makeover of a room. Maybe it will give you some ideas for a spare room or a kids bedroom. Thank you all CorinaH

Cork Board Project

A few years ago I bought this board image at Michaels. The plan was to do a project with it but year after year it sat in my closet collecting dust. Every time I looked in the closet it would remind me of all the ideas I had uncompleted. So it being a new year of opportunities I decided to start completing unfinished projects. So I went down to Michaels and bought cork board and some spray adhesive. I must admit it sat there for a week before I had time to get to it.

I started by tracing the cork board shape.
After the image was traced I pre cut it. Then took the cork board with the image outside onto the grass to spray the adhesive. An this is where it all went down hill. I sprayed extra adhesive because I wanted it to be permanent but it turns out its extra tacky!!!!! I missed placed the cork board and tried peeling it off but it wouldn't budge. So I saw all the time I had saved this board to make "something cool" flashing bye. So instantly I tried ripping it off.
Well it wasn't easy I pulled hard and at this point my hands are sticking to the board! So my bright idea was to place my foot on the board while I pulled the cork off. No Corina not very bright so now my foot is sticky, I'm frustrated, and I've spent all this money on supplies. For what? just for it to be ruined and quit? No way so eventually I pull off all the cork board.. I'm running on like an hour and a half before I have to go to work.
So being very frustrated I roll out the rest of the cork board I have and spray it completely. I throw the image straight down at this point why bother pre cutting clearly it didn't work for me the first time..
The cork board stayed outside to dry. Once it was dried I cut around the image.
So I need to go to work and I am sticky so I am scrubbing the heck out of my hands and nothing is working. I take a shower and scrub and I'm still sticky! When I go to put lotion on my feet guess what! Yup! I have grass stuck to my feet!! Embarrassing indeed. I've learned the hard way on how to work with spray adhesive. Hopefully my experience can help you guys if your ever in the same boat.

For the backing I used two hooks and some wire. With the help of a hammer and a nail It was placed on the wall.

When it comes to decorating the board if you'd like there are endless possibilities. Whether you have a theme to your room or you'd like to leave it simple with some cute thumb tacks. Ribbons, fabric, and paper designs could also be a cool thing to add. Like I said endless possibilities.
Well here's to being imperfect and sticky CorinaH

Pink Hair?

About two years ago my friend bought me chalk hair color for my birthday. The chalk had been sitting in my drawer since and one night when I was wide away I was like what the heck. Well the chalk had been damaged from sitting in my drawer so long. The chalk was crumbling into tiny pieces. If you follow me on instagram you would have seen this.
There's been a pink situation.
It was all bad, First off I didn't have a glove to protect my hand from the chalk. Secondly the chalk was so crumbly it was falling onto my floor.. But why not? you only live once. Chalking your hair is just a fun way to add a pop of color to your hair for a day or two. If you are thinking of dying your hair this would be a way to see if you like it before permanently taking the plunge.
Sorry my pictures aren't the best but I do have a turquoise chalk left and when I get the chance I will do it again properly and take better pictures.

Lets go to the Beach!

Hello Everyone! This lovely trip started off early with a doctor visit and a stop at Panera shhh.. Then we were on our way to Oceanside! woot!! My favorite place like ever. If I could I would be living there but you know. The weather and the beach its just perfection. Any who we went to spend some time with my brother before his deployment.
Once we were in town, we visited the beach. I guess I was to excited to be going that I didn't pack swimming clothes I know I cant believe it either. I had never been to this beach before it was very nice with private cabanas, a shaved ice shack and a beach entrance mat so your can get half way down the beach without sinking into the sand. pretty cool.

My little momma hiding from the sun.

Isn't this great? The salty sea air! The wind blowing in your face! *sigh* Perfect day to be at the beach. ~Eric (The Little Mermaid quote)

After the beach we went and checked into our hotel room to wash up. We decided to pick up pizza and take it back to the hotel room. While we waited for our food there was a fountain close by which meant a photo shoot. Duh*

The next morning we were headed home. On our way home we had to stop by our favorite Mexican food in San Clemente "La Tiendita". I had what I always get since I was like 5 a classic bean and cheese burrito.

We were traveling in two cars so on the way home me, my sister in law, and my niece stopped at IKEA I had never been before. Oh my goodness it has Everything!! I was in love. I couldn't buy much so I just picked up a few things to use in our learning playroom. Believe me I will defiantly be going back when I get the chance.
All the shopping made us hungry so we had a sneaky IN-N-OUT. Once we finished and took a restroom break we were back on the road heading home. We failed our original plan to get Krispy Kreme donuts. Once we got on the freeway we realized we had passed it up and traffic was crazy trying to turn around. So we ditched the idea.

My purchase from IKEA. Finger puppets, fruit basket, two books, painters apron, plastic tray, and a wooden man. total $35.89 I don't think its bad. The quality of everything is really good.
Well I hope you all enjoyed and if your every in San Clemente you should stop by "La Tiendita" its like a fast authentic Mexican food totally worth it. Seating is small but its just a block or two away from the pier. A perfect picnic awaits by the sunset. CorinaH
